antinociceptive effect of promethazine in mice
Authors
abstract
objective(s) the present study was undertaken to investigate the nociception activity of promethazine, a tranquillizer devoid of hypnotic activity in mice. materials and methods antinociception was evaluated, using the acetic acid-induced writhing, tail flick, hot plate and formalin pain tests. results promethazine (4 and 6 mg/kg) and acetylsalicylic acid (100 mg/kg) produced a significant inhibition of the second phase response in the formalin pain model (p<0.05) and the drug couldn’t show an antinociceptive effect in the first phase. morphine (10 mg/kg) inhibited both first and second phase response (p<0.01). drug also showed a dose-dependent inhibition of acetic acid-induced abdominal writhes. the tail flick and hot plate latency weren’t different from control (p>0.05) and administration of naloxone (0.1 mg/kg) couldn't block the antinociceptive effect of promethazine. conclusion the data obtained suggest that antinociceptive effects of the promethazine may be mediated via peripheral and not central mechanisms.

full textANTINOCICEPTIVE EFFECT OF ELAEAGNUS ANGUSTIFOLIA FRUIT IN MICE
The antinociceptive effect of Elaeagnus angustifolia fruits was studied in mice. The antinociceptive effect of ethanolic and boiling water extracts was studied using two thermal stimuli, the hot-plate and tail-flick tests. The intraperitoneal and oral administration of the ethanolic extract of seed 0.75-7.00 g/kg), but not pericarp and medulla had significant antinociceptive activity in the...

The antinociceptive effect of six novel synthetic pyrazolines (3-ethoxymethyl-5-ethoxycarbonyl-1H-pyrazole (Pz 1) and its corresponding 1-substituted methyl (Pz 2) and phenyl (Pz 3) analogues, and 3-(1-ethoxyethyl)-5-ethoxycarbonyl-1H-pyrazole (Pz 4) and its corresponding 1-substituted methyl (Pz 5) and phenyl (Pz 6) analogues) was evaluated by the tail immersion test in adult male albino mice....
full textEvaluation of pharmacological mechanisms of antinociceptive effect of Teucrium polium on visceral pain in mice
Teucrium polium is used for treatment of visceral pain in Iranian folkloric medicine. In this studyantinociceptive mechanisms of T. polium hydroethanolic extract were examined by acetic acid-inducedwrithing test as a model of visceral pain in male NMRI mice. To reveal the antinociceptive mechanisms ofthe extract, we examined the effects of opioidergic, serotonergic, adrenergic and histaminergic...
full textAntinociceptive effect of amitriptyline in mice of acute pain models.
Tricyclic antidepressant drugs induce antinociceptive effect and suggest that their analgesic action could be related to the monoaminergic activity of the drugs. The analgesic activity of amitriptyline was observed in mouse models of acute pain. Mice were divided into different groups and were given amitriptyline in different doses alone and in combination with morphine. Reaction time in Hot-Pl...
full textThe Antinociceptive Effect of GW5074 in C57BL/6 Mice
Visceral pain is one of the most common type of pain in mammals, however its mechanisms of action has not clearly been understood. In common sense, prostaglandins are released depending on tissue damage to reduce the threshold of pain receptors. Thus, pharmacological inhibition of c-Raf kinase signaling which controls the expression of cytokines and other proinflammatory factors may increase th...
